Our
Story

The Mark and Will show was founded by Mark Watkins who works full time

at UPS and William Woods II who works at Seven Counties Services and

part time at Male Logistics. Both men played sports growing up, William was

a former Shawnee little player and Male High School football player and

Mark was also a former athlete. However, they were more immersed

in the learning and dissecting of the sport. Both of their families were very

into sports - watch parties, diehard fans, always talking about sports. To

them, sports was a constant that never wavered from their lives which

is what drew them to starting this show. Their mission is to help kids

who don't get a lot of media coverage due to a lack of resources in a lot of

schools in the Louisville, Kentucky area. An example of this is giving

youth athletes a platform to promote themselves by doing Players of the

Week on Twitter. Faith also fuels these founders into doing the show.

Whether people believe in God, go to church or not, faith is a spiritual

construct that everybody connects with. The show covers every sport that both

men and women play. The shows' primary focus is Louisville, Kentucky

athletics but they also have other shows about professional and

statewide athletics. They recently started a Friday talk show, Friday Night

Crew, which explores recent events happening in our society. They also

have another show coming up, Mark and Will Gaming, which captures the

ins and outs of gaming. A lot different from sports talk show, but still very

central to their mission of helping the community in unique ways. Of course,

the expansion of the Mark and Will show wasn't in the initial plan but as

their outreach and support started to gain traction the expansion was

inevitable. The biggest challenges these founders think they face with the show

is when guest appearances do "no call, no shows." The show is based

around having that guest speak but when they don't call and don't show it

makes the entire schedule discombobulated in a sense because

nothing they do on their shows is scripted, it's very raw and deep in

terms of the conversation happening. Another challenge they face, is getting

support for the show. A lot of people will say they watch it, or they like it but,

they don't. As well as connection and support from schools and the

community to be involved in the partnership needed for the shows

segments to be a success. It's important to lift up entertainers like Mark and

Will who are genuinely trying to make a difference in the community through

their entertainment business. Even outside of the entertainment industry,

Mark and Will are working on some fun and inspiring outreach opportunities

for the community. They hosted a back-to-school event that gave kids

school supplies and such that they needed for school. They are looking

forward to hosting another back to school event and hosting a feeding the

homeless event for youth to get involved with to give back to the

community like God wants us too. As the show has progressed, the most

memorable shows they have taped were a young athlete from Louisville

Male High School, Jayshawne Monroe, because of his energy during the

interview. Another one was a Pleasure Ridge Park coach Kihnley who was

another very energetic spirit on the show who pushed his players to be their

best version of themselves which was why so many young athletes wanted to

play for him. As you'll remember at the beginning of this article, Mark and Will

both work full time jobs yet still find 4-5 days out of the week to do the show.

Looking forward to the future, the founders hope to keep expanding their

channel to be a full sports network with separate sports shows for all the

individual sports they feature. They don't get paid for this show, but they do

it because they love it and want to use it to make a difference in the community.

Mark and Will would like to thank everyone who supports them in this

journey. Especially Mark's wife who helps them spearhead their community outreach events like the Back to School Fair, and Will's recently deceased father who inspired them to not only be better host but better men.
